Born in Domrémy in Duchy of Bar, France, on this day in 1412, Joan of Arc (Jeanne d’arc), the so-called “Maid of Orléans” (La Pucelle d’Orléans), a much beloved heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years War. https://youtu.be/FG5xkeeQmSg
After her execution at the hands of the English, shown here in an artist’s impression from ca. 1485, she was later canonised as a Roman Catholic saint.
