The gestures and actions expressed by Venus and Vulcan in this oil on canvas by Gaetano Gandolfi, painted between 1770 and 1775, led to a double title of the work. In fact, a first cataloging with the title of Venus Receiving the Arms from Vulcan for Aeneas, in relation to the gesture of delivery of the arms by the respectful husband, another one followed, Venus Ordering Armor for Aeneas at Vulcan’s Forge, probably derived from the peremptory and eloquent gesture of the goddess of love.
